Arizona Antelope Foundation Rose Tree/Pipeline-Troughs & San Rafael Valley Vaca Ranch / Fence Modification October 1, 2011
Project Location: We will be working on the Vaca and Rose Tree Ranch grasslands east and southeast of Sonoita Arizona.
Project Begins: Saturday October 1st. Meet at camp at 8:00 AM. This is a one day project.
Project Activity:
On the Vaca Ranch we will be modifying approximately 1.5 miles of existing fence to 4 strands by removing the bottom, barbed-wire stands and replacing with smooth-wire. This effort is located on private property in the northwest quarter of the San Rafael Valley in the Meadow Valley area bordering a main county roadway. On the Rosetree Ranch we will lay approximately 1 mile of surface pipe and install 2 water troughs in direct proximity to a previously funded AAF and ADA HPC brush treatment and a 2.5 mile 2010 October fence project completed by the AAF. The completion of the multi-specie HPC well/water trough project will complete a water project funded by the ADA and AAF in 2010.
Pronghorn Benefits:
The fence modification on the Vaca Ranch will improve travel for the last remaining herd of 9 pronghorn utilizing the Meadow Valley area of the San Rafael Valley and will improve access to 6-8 square miles of critical Pronghorn fawning habitat. It will assist in completing a critical northwest portion of the overall San Rafael Valley pronghorn corridor improvement project. The installation of the 2 Rose Tree water troughs will add new water sites for 36 wintering pronghorn in the southeast section of the Las Cienegas Grasslands and the Babocomari Ranch to the south.
Meals: Please provide your own lunch to eat in the field on Saturday.
THE AAF WILL PROVIDE DINNER SATURDAY EVENING FOR ALL VOLUNTEERS
What to Bring: Workgloves (The AAF will have a limited supply), snacks, water, personal gear.
Contact: Glen Dickens at (520-247-4907) for project information.
If you are planning to attend, please RSVP to info@azantelope.org by Friday September 23 so we can plan to have enough food and tools.
