21st Biennial Pronghorn Workshop
Special Recognition Honoree
John Hervert, AZ Game & Fish

John is the Wildlife Program Manager for the Yuma Region, which contains all the currently occupied Sonoran pronghorn habitat in the United States.  John has been involved in recovery efforts for the desert pronghorn for more than a decade.  Part of the recovery team, John has been the major driving force in recovery efforts. Though his efforts, and those of his staff solely dedicated to the subspecies, John has uncovered several important discoveries concerning the management and biology of the Sonoran pronghorn.  Not content with the status quo of the animal’s plight, John is currently undertaking efforts to increase the population numbers thought reducing adult mortality, and increasing fawn production and survival by initiating a forage enhancement program.  He oversees the new captive herd program, modeled after the successful Peninsular pronghorn effort.  He has been the chief capture expert for the subspecies, and is the best netgunner in the Southwest.  He has likely handled more endangered pronghorn than anyone on the planet.

John has attended previous Pronghorn Workshops and actively shared his knowledge and ideas.  He has published a number of abstracts or manuscripts dealing with the management of the desert pronghorn.  Quite likely, he knows more about the subspecies than anyone else.
