ARIZONA ANTELOPE FOUNDATION

AAF Special tag Fund Activities

Historically, the Arizona Game and Fish Department awarded two special antelope tags to wildlife conservation organizations to be auctioned or raffled. The funds generated by the tags are then put in a special account at the department and used on projects that will benefit antelope. The projects are submitted by the department's six regional offices and are approved by a committee consisting of representatives of both the Game and Fish Department and the organization that the tag was awarded to. Similar special tags are awarded for elk, bighorn sheep, buffalo, mule deer, whitetail deer, turkey, and javelina. Because the special tags are for a greatly extended season and allow the recipient to hunt virtually anywhere in the state, they usually generate a considerable amount of money.

Every year since its inception in 1993, the Arizona Antelope Foundation has been fortunate enough to be awarded both special antelope tags. In the past we have distributed the tags to organizations that have major fundraisers so they can be sold at those events. Since we are the organization to which the tags were awarded, we sit on the committee that decides how the money will be spent.

In 2006 the number of tags increased to three. All were awarded to the AAF, one to be auctioned at the ADBSS banquet, one to be auctioned at the AAF banquet, and the third to be raffled as part of the Arizona Big Game Super Raffle.
