Dylan Woods B&C Score: 95 Unit 9 Taxidermist: Ron Davis
The following is a story that appeared in the AAF Pronghorn quarterly newsletter in the spring of 2001
Dylan Woods is an NAU student from Cottonwood, AZ. He took this World Record buck in unit 9 on the general
rifle hunt. Dylan is an avid sportsman and told us that he scouted his unit four weekends in a row before his hunt. During these scouting trips he learned areas that held antelope, where the
roads were and where the possible watering sites were. the funny thing is he never spotted his monster buck before the season.
Without having any real target buck nailed down and the season just a few days
away Dylan decided that he should just head to an area that he had seen some antelope in while scouting. In this particular area he had spotted two bucks a
couple of weeks earlier. Though neither was a toad he thought one might be a little over 15 inches and the best buck he had seen scouting. So that is where he
decided to try his luck. His luck turned out to be astronomical. After getting to this area and not finding this possible 15-inch buck he decided to take a little hike to
check an area close by where he thought the buck might be. Shortly after leaving the truck as he crossed a drainage and out jumped an antelope. Dylan saw that it
was a buck but not one he had seen before. It looked pretty big so he pulled the 7mm off his shoulder got into shooting position and watched the buck trot to about
250 yards away and stop. He put the buck in the crosshairs and pulled the trigger. Boom! And the buck just stood there, he had missed, so he loaded another round
and again lined the buck up in the crosshairs, calmed himself down and squeezed off the shot and the buck went down. This buck is 19 inches plus on his right horn
and more than 17 inches on the left. B&C scorer Mike Cupell scored him after the sixty-day drying period and stretched the tape to an even 95 inches. A panel of
B&C judges later inspected and verified this world record score.
